MoUs inked to address Chemical Industry’s need of Skilled Manpower
(i) Union Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) and Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers (MCF) signed MoUs to address the Industry’s need of Skilled Manpower.
(ii) These MoUs will enhance strategic tie between both parties to scale up skill development and entrepreneurship initiatives in the country.
(iii) It will also collectively address the incremental human resource requirement in the Petrochemicals, Fertilizers and Pharmaceutical industry.
(iv) According to NSDC Report, there is a huge requirement of trained and efficient manpower in production, quality control and Research and development the Petrochemicals, Fertilizers and Pharmaceutical industry.
(v) At present around 19 lakh manpower is required in pharmaceutical industry alone and it is expected to go up to 35 lakh by 2022.
(i) The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on 9 July 2015 released the final guidelines on Prepaid Payment Instruments for Mass Transit System (PPI-MTS).
(ii) The issued guidelines enable the issuance of a separate category of semi-closed prepaid payment instruments for mass transit systems.
(iii) The PPI-MTS will enhance commuter convenience and will also facilitate the migration to electronic payments in line with the country’s vision of moving to a less-cash society.
(iv) The PPI-MTS can be used within the mass transit systems and will have a minimum validity of six months from date of issue. Such PPIs will be reloadable instruments subject to an outstanding limit of 2000 rupees at any point of time.
Healthcare firm Practo acquires tech start-up Genii
(i) Healthcare firm Practo has acquired Mumbai based Genii, a technology services start-up focused on product design and development.
(ii) With this acquisition, Genii’s founders Varun Vohra and Aditya Anand and their 11 member team will join Bengaluru based Practo.
(iii) Currently, Practo provides Practo Search, an app and web service for scheduling appointments with doctors and also Practo Ray, a practice management solution for doctors to manage their patients and digital healthcare records.
(iv) Presently, Practo has over 8,000 hospitals on its platform and aiming to reach to 20,000 hospitals by the end 2015.
(v) It should be noted that Genii is their second acquisition. In April 2015, it had acquired Delhi-based fitness tech start-up FitHo.
Infosys signed Multi-Million Euro Deal with Deutsche Bank
(i) India’s second largest IT services firm Infosys on 8 July 2015 signed a multi-million euro deal with Deutsche Bank. As per this agreement, Infosys will provide services like application maintenance, package implementation and testing services across the Deutsche Bank Group.
(ii) Infosys will also be a strategic partner under Deutsche Bank’s Supplier Partnership Programme, which was launched in June 2014 to concentrate on the most strategic vendors based on business impact across all categories of the bank.
Rahul Bhatnagar named as new MD and CFO of Bharti Enterprises
(i) Rahul Bhatnagar was named as new Managing Director (MD) and chief financial officer (CFO) of Bharti Enterprises.
(ii) He succeeds Manoj Kohli, who was recently appointed as executive chairman, SBG Cleantech a Joint Venture (JV) between Bharti Enterprises, Japan’s telecom major SoftBank and Taiwan’s Foxconn Technology Group.
(iii) Earlier he had worked with PepsiCo for over 19 years in various senior level positions across geographies. He also had served as PepsiCo’s Vice President (business services & CFO) for the worldwide.
7th BRICS Summit held in Ufa, Russia
(i) The seventh BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) summit was held from 8 to 9 July 2015 in the Russian city of Ufa in Bashkortostan.
(ii) It was held under the theme BRICS Partnership – a Powerful Factor of Global Development.
(iii) The summit was attended by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Dilma Rousseff, Vladimir Putin, Xi Jinping and Jacob Zuma president of Brazil, Russia, China and South Africa respectively.
(iv) In a five-year summit cycle, the summit is hosted by Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa in the order.
(v) While the 6th BRICS summit was held at Fortaleza in Brazil in 2014, New Delhi will be hosting the 8th summit in 2016.
