Indian-American professor R Paul Singh named for 2015 World Agriculture Prize laureate
(i) R Paul Singh, Indian-American professor has been selected for 2015 World Agriculture Prize laureate. 
(ii) The award was announced at the annual Global Confederation for Higher Education Associations for Agriculture and Life Sciences (GCHERA) conference held at the Holy Spirit University of Kaslik, Lebanon. 
(iii) Singh is known for niche research areas of agricultural sector such as freezing preservation, energy conservation, post-harvest technology and mass transfer in food processing.
(iv) His research group also had created food- processing equipment under a NASA contract for a manned mission to Mars. 
(v) He also had contributed in establishing and evaluating food-engineering programs at various institutions throughout the world including in India, Brazil, Portugal, Peru and Thailand.

Haryana Government launches ‘Mhara Gaon, Jagmag Gaon’ scheme
(i) Haryana Government launched ‘Mhara Gaon, Jagmag Gaon’ scheme to provide 24 hour uninterrupted power supply for rural domestic consumers in a phased manner with their active participation. 
(ii) The scheme was launched by Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar from Dyalpur village of Kurukshetra district. 
(iii) With this launch, Haryana became first state in the country to provide such an innovative voluntary scheme.
(iv) Mhara Gaon, Jagmag Gaon scheme provide 24-hour uninterrupted power supply to rural domestic consumers.
(v) The scheme will be implemented in phases. In the first phase of the scheme, 83 feeders have been identified covering 310 villages.

(i) Prof. Sanjeev Galande has been selected for the prestigious G D Birla award for Scientific Research 2014. 
(ii) He has been selected for his significant contribution and his pioneering research in the field of Epigenetics and Molecular Cell Biology. 
(iii) Presently, he is a professor at the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER), Pune and also leading a team of scientists in studying various aspects of gene He is also a recipient of Shantiswaroop Bhatnagar award.
(iv) G.D. Birla Award Established 1991 by the K. K. Birla Foundation in the honour of philanthropist Ghanshyam Das Birla.

Airbus to make helicopters in India With  Mahindra
(i) European major Airbus teamed up with diversified Mahindra Group, to establish a joint venture for manufacturing helicopters for the Indian Armed Forces.
(ii) The joint venture between Airbus Helicopters and Mahindra Defence aims to become the first private Indian helicopter manufacturer under the ‘Make in India’ initiative, the companies said.
(iii) S.P. Shukla, Mahindra’s Group President (Aerospace and Defence Sector) and Chairman, Mahindra Defence Systems, said the joint venture would produce India’s next generation helicopters that will not only answer the country’s defence needs, but will also have the potential for exports in the future.
(iv) According to the statement, the venture would create hundreds of high-tech jobs locally and lead to a flow of cutting edge technologies to India, should it be selected in the governmental helicopter tenders.

SBI launches initiative to speed up home loan applications
(i) Country’s largest lender State Bank of India on Friday launched an initiative to provide doorstep services and expedite home loans application process.

(ii) The initiative known as ‘Project Tatkal’ will help get the loan within 10 days after receipt of application form and relevant supporting documents, the bank said in a release.
(iii) The bank has also recently introduced an online customer acquisition solution (OCAS) for instant e-approval of home loan applications.
(iv) The bank has over three million home loan customers with a portfolio of over Rs. 16,60,000 crore.

Inter-State mobile number portability from today
(i) Mobile services provider, including Airtel and Vodafone, on Thursday announced roll out of nation-wide mobile number portability (NMNP) on Friday that will allow users to keep their existing cell phone numbers while shifting between States.
(ii) Presently, users can change their operator while retaining the same number only in the same State or telecom circle. 
(iii) NMNP will enable people shifting location, across circles, to retain their number either with the same operator or by shifting to a different operator. 
(iv) The government had fixed July 3 as the deadline for a national rollout of NMNP. 
(v) Bharti Airtel said customer requests to port within its network will be processed in 24 hours and while the request is being processed, they can avail free incoming on roaming.

(i) Fazle Hasan Abed of Bangladesh has been named as the winner of the 2015 World Food Prize. 
(ii) He is founder and chairman of Bangladesh-based non-governmental organisation (NGO) BRAC (originally known as Bangladesh Rural Advancement Committee) which is world’s largest NGO.
(iii) BRAC had grown into one of the world’s largest NGO with prime focus on alleviating poverty. It has expanded its operations in more than 10 countries especially in Asia and Africa.
(iv) World Food Prize Established in 1986 by Nobel laureate Norman Borlaug (father of the Green Revolution). 
(v) It is an annual award that recognizes scientists and others who have improved the quality and availability of food. It carries monetary award of 250,000 dollars.
