India, Uzbekistan ink pacts to boost cooperation
India, Uzbekistan ink pacts to boost cooperation
(i) India and Uzbekistan have inked pacts to boost cooperation between their foreign offices and in the field of culture and tourism. 
(ii) The agreements were signed after Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his counterpart Islam Karimov, Uzbekistan President had talks on key bilateral and regional issues. 
(iii) This visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi  was part of his first leg of strategic tour to 5 Central Asian countries (Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan) and Russia.

Meiji Period Sites of Japan gets UNESCO World Heritage Site Status
(i) Japan’s Meiji-era (1868-1912) industrial revolution sites have received World Cultural Heritage status from United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). 
(ii) Decision in this regard was taken during the 39th session of the World Heritage Committee chaired by Maria Bohmer in Bonn, Germany. 
(iii) With this inclusion, the total Cultural sites with UNESCO World Heritage Status in Japan have increased to 15 along with 4 natural sites.
(iv) About UNESCO World Heritage Site Status This status granted to a places of cultural and natural significance by the UNESCO. 
(v) The list of these heritage sites is part of the Convention Concerning the Protection of the World’s Cultural and Natural Heritage which was adopted by the UNESCO’s General Conference in 1972.

Kamal Bawa elected as Fellow to Royal Society
Kamal Bawa elected as Fellow to Royal Society
(i) Eminent Ecologist Kamal Bawa has been elected as Fellow to the London based prestigious Royal Society. 
(ii) He was chosen in recognition of his pioneering contributions in the field of conservation science.
(iii) With this, he joins former and current eminent fellows of Royal Society such as Isaac Newton, Albert Einstein, Charles Darwin, Stephen Hawking etc.
(iv) Bawa is India’s most prominent biologist and an evolutionary ecologist.
(v) For his contribution to environmental research he has been bestowed with Midori Prize for Biodiversity (2014), Gunnerus Award in Sustainability Science (2012).

37 Bridges authored by Aamer Hussein
(i) Book 37 Bridges and Other Stories authored by a noted Pakistani author Aamer Hussein book is a new collection of his stories. The book was released on 15 March 2015.
(ii) The author through the book highlights the matter of identity with respect to both the Hindu and Muslim. 
(iii) Further, the book identifies itself with Hussein’s identity who is a British citizen born to a Pakistani father and an Indian mother both of whom later settled in Britain.

(i) President Pranab Mukherjee on 6 July 2015 inaugurated Nakshatra Vatika at his official Rashtrapati Nilayam Gardens in Bolarum, Secunderabad. 
(ii) The vatika (garden) has plants representing planets, zodiac signs and stars. 
(iii) The layout of ‘Nakshatra Vatika’ has been developed in various geometrical combinations corresponding to the Sree Chakra of Vedic astrology on a 0.91 acre plot.

At 112, world's oldest man dies in Japan
(i) Sakari Momoi, who was recognised as the world's oldest man and credited healthy eating and getting plenty of sleep for his longevity, has died at the age of 112, Japanese media said on Tuesday.
(ii) Momoi was born in Fukushima in February 1903 - the year the teddy bear was introduced and Orville Wright carried out the first powered, heavier-than-air flight.
(iii) Named the world's oldest man in August 2014, Momoi, a former teacher, who spent his days practising calligraphy and taking part in recreational activities at the hospital where he lived, donned a suit and tie for a ceremony to receive a plaque from Guinness World Records.

Chinese ex-FM to be AIIB chief
(i) China on Monday named a former Finance Minister as its choice to head the Beijing-backed Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), which is being seen as a rival to the U.S. and Europe-dominated banking institutions. 
(ii) Former Finance Minister Jin Liqun has been formally nominated by China as its preferred candidate to head the $100 billion AIIB.
(iii) Mr. Jin (65) is currently the secretary-general of the interim multilateral secretariat for establishing AIIB. 
(iv) He is effectively certain to be appointed as China will initially have a 26.06 per cent share of the votes at the bank, giving it veto power over the choice of the president, which requires a 75 per cent majority. 
(v) India by virtue of being the second largest shareholder may get the post of vice-president.

Modi releases first Uzbek-Hindi dictionary
(i) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said that importance of Hindi was set to increase with India marching rapidly towards economic prosperity.
(ii) In an address to indologists, Hindi language students and Indian community members in Tashkent, Mr. Modi also referred to growing conflicts and said he liked Uzbek President Islam Karimov’s view that music could be the best means to stay away from violence.
(iii) Mr. Modi said people-to-people contact was foundation for relations between any countries where language and culture also play important role.
(iv) The Prime Minister also released the first Uzbek-Hindi dictionary along with his Uzbek counterpart and Indologist Rakhmatov.
