India set to launch five British satellites
India set to launch five British satellites
(i) The Indian space agency on Wednesday morning began the countdown for the July 10 rocket launch that would carry five British satellites.
(ii) According to Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), the 62 hours and 30 minutes countdown for the July 10th night launch of rocket Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) XL variant began at 7.28 a.m. on Wednesday.
(iii) The rocket is scheduled to blast off at 9.58 p.m. on July 10 from the first launch pad with five satellites together weighing around 1,440 kg, for an undisclosed fee.

MGNREGA world’s largest public works programme: World Bank Report 
(i) World Bank has ranked the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Gurantee Act (MGNREGA) as the world’s largest public works programme. 
(ii) It was revealed in recently released World Bank Group’s report titled ‘The State of Social Safety Nets 2015‘. 
(iii) Report Highlights MGNREGA (under Ministry of Rural Development) provides social security net to 182 million beneficiaries i.e. almost 15 per cent of the India’s population. 
(iv) Mid-day meal scheme (under Ministry of Human Resource Development) has been classified as biggest school feeding programme. 
(v) It benefits around 105 million beneficiaries. Janani Suraksha Yojna (Under Ministry of Health and Family Welfare) is top-most social security programme with conditional cash transfers. 
(vi) It has 78 million beneficiaries. Indira Gandhi National Old Age Pension Scheme (under Ministry of Rural Development) is the second-largest unconditional cash transfer social security progamme in the world.

India, Kazakhstan launch first drilling at Satpayev oil block of OVL
(i) India and Kazakhstan launched the first exploratory drilling at Satpayev oil block owned by India’s ONGC Videsh Limited (OVL) and Kazakhstan company KazMunaiGaz. 
(ii) It was jointly launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Kazakhstan premier Karim Massimov in Astana, Kazakh capital. 
(iii) Key facts Satpayev oil block is an offshore field located in the Northern Caspian Sea. It has potential reserves estimated at 1.8 billion barrels crude oil and natural gas.
(iv) OVL is also seeking to capture the potential of this oil block by drilling out peak output of 2 lakh 87 thousand barrels per day.
(v) This move also can be seen as India’s strategy to counter the strategic foothold gain of China in the Central Asian region.

Jodhpur Film Society honoured with Pritiman Sarkar Award 2014-15
(i) The Film Society of Jodhpur was on 7 July 2015 conferred with the Pritiman Sarkar Award 2014-15 for the consequent fourth time for being the best film society in Northern Region in raising awareness and film appreciation.
(ii) The award was presented by the Federation of Film Societies of India (North Region). 
(iii) The award was given in recognition of screening of a series of films by the society in 2014-15 in Jodhpur to mark 100 glorious years of Indian cinema under the Incredible Journey of Indian Cinema.

SC issue notices to Centre, ECI to bring political parties under RTI Act
(i) Supreme Court issued notices to the Union Government, Election Commission of India (ECI) on a plea to bring all political parties under the ambit of Right to Information (RTI) Act, 2005. 
(ii) The notice was also issued to six National Political Parties viz. BJP, Congress, CPI, BSP, CPI (M) and NCP. 
(iii) It was issued by 3 member SC bench headed by Chief Justice HL Dattu on the Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by an NGO, Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR). 
(iv) The bench comprised of Justice Arun Kumar Mishra and Justice Amitava Roy .

MoEFCC holds meeting with 6 states to review ESA demarcation progess in Western Ghats
(i) Union Ministry of Environment, Forests & Climate Change (MoEFCC) held a meeting with 6 states in New Delhi to review the progress of demarcation of Ecologically Sensitive Areas (ESA) along the Western Ghats region. 
(ii) The crucial meeting discussed the progress made by states to physically demarcate ESA in this region in order to decide the further course of action in the ambit of recommendations made by Kasturirangan Committee report (2013). 
(iii) The meeting was chaired by Union Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar and was attained by environment Ministers of six States viz. Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Goa, Maharashtra and Gujarat.

(i) Pune’s prestigious Fergusson College, has been accorded the special heritage status by the University Grants Commission (UGC). 
(ii) With the status, UGC will provide financial assistance for its upkeep. Now the college is among the 19 institutions in the country to get the heritage status.

Telangana government, ICRISAT ink MoU to promote IT-based information for farmers
(i) Telangana government and International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) inked MoU to promote IT-based information for farmers. 
(ii) The MoU seeks to provide Information and Communication Technology (ICT)-based knowledge sharing platforms and other agricultural innovation initiatives to farmers in order to improve their productivity. 
(iii) Under this innovative digital initiative expert systems delivery mechanism for real time advisories, information dissemination and improved access to market information will be revitalised. 
(iv) It will also enable state government create new economic opportunities through digital agriculture and enable to create direct linkages between consumers and farmers.
(v) The MoU was signed by ICRISAT Director General David Bergvinson, C Parthasarathi, Secretary and Agriculture-Production Commissioner and Jayesh Ranjan, Secretary, IT, Electronics & Communications of Telangana Government.

(i) World Boxing Organization (WBO) has stripped of the Welterweight World title 2015 won by Floyd Mayweather in May 2015. 
(ii) Decision in this regard was taken by WBO after Mayweather failed to pay the 200,000 dollar sanctioning fee to WBO prior to the deadline of 3 July 2015.
(iii) Mayweather had won the Welterweight World title 2015 on May 2, 2015 by defeating Manny Pacquiao of Philippines in Las Vegas. 
(iv) This fight was the richest of all time as it had earned around record 220 million dollars.
