Union Government launches National Career Counselling portal
(i) Union Government has launched National Career Counselling Portal in a bid to modernize all government-run employment exchanges.
(ii) It was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi under the aegis of National Career Service (NCS) project of Union Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship.
(iii) The web portal will be a one-stop platform for both job providers and job seekers where registration can be done online.
(iv) It will provide basic platform for searching and applying for jobs on the portal. It should be noted that NCS project aims at transforming all the government-run employment exchanges.
(i) Union Government has appointed Bhanu Pratap Sharma as Chairperson Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI).
(ii) Presently, he is Health and Family Welfare Secretary was given additional charge of FSSAI for three months. Sharma is an IAS officer of 1981 batch from Bihar cadre.
(iii) Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) is a nodal statutory agency responsible for protecting and promoting public health in India through the regulation and supervision of food safety.
(iv) FSSAI was established under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 and operates under aegis of Union Ministry of Health & Family Welfare.
French tennis legend Amelie Mauresmo inducted in International Tennis Hall of Fame
(ii) Australian Open (2006) and Wimbledon (2006). She is also former world number one and had spent a total of 39 weeks atop in the rankings in 2004 and 2006.
(iii) She also had won a Silver Medal at the 2004 Summer Olympics. She is third French women tennis player to win a Grand Slam title in the Open Era. Others are Mary Pierce and Marion Bartoli.
New fish species named Puntius Dolichopterus discovered in Kerala
(i) A new species of cyprinid freshwater fish named Puntius Dolichopterus has been discovered in Kerala’s Kayamkulam city.
(ii) It was discovered by Mathews Plamoottil, head of the department of zoology in Baby John Memorial Government College of Kollam district.
(iii) Named after two Greek words ‘dolikhos’ meaning elongated and ‘pteron’ meaning wing or fin. The fish has been included in the fish family Cyprinidae.
Pam Rajput Committee’s recommendation on Status of Women
(i) High Level Committee (HLC) on Status of Women headed by Pam Rajput, constituted by former UPA government, was in news in fourth week of July 2015.
(ii) The committee came in news after a workshop to discuss its recommendations to generate a working road map to empower women was held in New Delhi on 20 July 2015.
(iii) The High Level Committee on Status of Women presented its first copy of the Preliminary Report to the Minister for Women and Child Development, Krishna Tirath on 3 February 2015.
Telugu cartoonist Pamarthy Shankar won Grand Prix World Press Cartoon 2014 Award
(i) Pamarthy Shankar, a cartoonist working with the prominent Telugu Daily newspaper Sakshi, on 11 July 2015 won the Grand Prix World Press Cartoon 2014 Award for sketching Nelson Mandela.
(ii) He was presented the award at Cascais in Portugal by World Press Cartoon Director Antonio Antunes.
(iii) A Nelson Mandela caricature drawn by Shankar after the death of the iconic South African anti-apartheid leader in December 2013, fetched him the award for the year 2014.
(iv) Shankar's caricature was displayed at a World Press Cartoon exhibition at Cascais in Portugal along with the top 50 works by other cartoonists in 2014.
Pankaj Munjal appointed as CMD of Hero Motors Group
(ii) He succeeded O P Munjal, who was elevated to the position of Chairman Emeritus.
(iii) Pankaj Munjal joined the Hero group in 1988 as a trainee and was appointed as its Co-Chairman and Managing Director in December 2011.
